A Bay Pointe Inn Wedding With Scottish Flair
In just a couple days Scott and Courtney will be celebrating their one year anniversary of their Bay Pointe Inn wedding in Shelbyville, Michigan! To celebrate that milestone, today I wanted to share the story and photos of their beautiful wedding day.
The first time I spoke with Scott and Courtney, I knew these two were going to be such a joy to work with. They are both so kind, joyful and had such a beautiful vision for their wedding day. Courtney is a wedding photographer and is the owner of Courtney Carolyn Photography, and Scott frequents as her second shooter on wedding days. So it’s safe to say the couple has seen a lot of weddings, so they knew what they wanted for their own wedding day.
What I loved about Scott and Courtney’s Bay Pointe Inn wedding was they made it a multi-day event. They choose to host their wedding on a Thursday since all of their guests were traveling across the state and country anyway, so most of them decided to make a mini vacation of out it. The day before their wedding they hosted a “south of the border” themed rehearsal dinner on the lake followed by an outdoor movie showing under the stars complete with a popcorn bar!
On wedding day guests woke up and enjoyed a breakfast followed by a day of yard games and enjoying the lake before heading back to their rooms to prepare for the wedding. Scott and Courtney were blessed with the most beautiful weather on their wedding day, which made their lakeside ceremony and reception a total dream.

Another favorite from the day was the Scottish influence the couple added into the day to represent Scott’s heritage. Scott and they groomsmen wore kilts, there was a bagpiper, a Scottish ceremony and even the color palette of the wedding was inspired by Scott’s family’s tartan. Such a fun way to tie in part of their story!
Lets stop and talk about these florals, because Courtney did them herself! When she first mentioned she was planning on doing all the florals for her wedding I cannot lie, I was a little nervous. Mainly, I didn’t want her to much too much on her plate and not enjoy the day. But she absolutely killed it and after the wedding they had me donate all the florals to a local nursing home – so sweet!
Dear future couples – don’t be afraid to try something different when it comes to your wedding menu. I love when couples shake things up and this burger bar was a crowd favorite!
Courtney is a big fan of all things 50s so these 50s inspired pie plates were the perfect touch to their pie bar. Courtney’s friends and family even threw her a 50s themed bridal shower where everyone dressed up with clothing from the decade – so fun! I love it when couples tie in small touches of things that are meaningful to them.
Scott and Courtney, thank you for letting us be a part of this magical day. You are such a joyful, sweet and kind couple and I loved every minute of working with you on this gorgeous wedding day. I wish you the best of luck in your future together and happy anniversary from Team Stellaluna!
