Lake Bluff Preserve Wedding | Mackenzie and Josh

“Life is better up north.” If a wedding had to have a theme, this was Mackenzie and Josh’s. What’s better than celebrating two lovebirds? Celebrating two lovebirds during the summer in Northern Michigan. What does this entail? A Memorial Day weekend getaway, the warm sun shining, breezy late night bonfires, dune walks, yard games, waves crashing lazily on the sand while someone’s playlist hummed in the background. Sound dreamy? It was.

Mackenzie and Josh’s vision for their wedding was a 4-day vacation-celebration with 82 of their favorite people. A giant group hangout wedding was the perfect approach for this couple; Mackenzie with her contagious love of life (and love of witty sarcasm!) and Josh with his easy-going presence that puts everyone at ease. Not only do these bring the party and the good hangs, they bring out the best in each other, and everyone who knows them can see that!

The ceremony was held on a beautiful cliffside at Lake Bluff Preserve, overlooking Lake Michigan. Mackenzie came down aisle arm-in-arm with her Mom, beaming in a modern off-the-shoulder gown with little pearl details. Josh’s brother-in-law officiated the ceremony, which brought a personal touch to the day.

One of the highlights of the wedding design was the florals that complimented the natural color scheme of the lakeshore. Blues, greens, and neutrals highlighted every corner of the day. The organic, earthy feel was elevated even more by a natural wood welcome sign and seating chart.

Their reception took place in an airy tent, complete with antique farm tables, garlands of greenery, delicate babies breath, and tall taper candles, with table settings to match. Custom menus at every place setting elevated the experience for guests, and the space felt intentional, yet breezy and relaxed.

Mackenzie and Josh’s perfect day ended with a romantic sunset over the lake, as everyone clinked glasses and busted moves on the dance floor.
